BATEMAN'S BAY, AUSTRALIA
Today had a great out and back 8km from the tender jetty here at Bateman's Bay to an observation area overlooking the Bay, where I met some wonderful local inhabitants. Great conditions not too hot and humid, nice breeze from the ocean. Nice cycle/jogging track extends all along the waterfront, great to stay out of the traffic. Very friendly folk here, very warm welcome.

From 16th to 19th Dec., had a GREAT stay in Brisbane. On the 16th, had a late afternoon run from the Hamilton Pier, where we were docked, along the river towards town about 9kms in total, back along Breakfast Creek Road to the ship at Portside. Great run, still toasty at 1800 and humid. Same on the 17th, then on the 18th an out-and-back 6km towards the airport. On the 19th a great run to Story Bridge (photo) and back 10kms in total.
Now (20th) on our way to Sydney- a little choppy!

@ SEA
We are currently en route to Brisbane, Australia. On Thursday 10th did an early morning repeat of the Dunk Island run, with the exception of the peak, which made it 9km. Slow and humid. Then Saturday 12th did a circuit at Hamilton Island around past the airport to Passage Peak at 240m elevation. Great run on trails, challenging, hot and humid- last bit up the the peak un-run-able (for me, anyway) as steep and broken underfoot. Back in a loop to the resort- a total of 9km. Australian sun seems more draining than Cape Town, maybe it's more humid?Need about 3 litres-plus a day hydration here. Yesterday, Sunday 13th in Airlie Beach had a nice easy 7km out and back from the marina in the late afternoon- not too toasty. Next stop, Brisbane.

DUNK ISLAND, GREAT BARRIER REEF
A GREAT bush run, 10km round this wonderful island- Dunk Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia. A bush circuit of 10 km, flat for 1.5km then 2km uphill to the observation post at 3.5km at 240m elevation, (according to my Garmin), then downhill to Coconut Beach and past the airstrip back to the pier. Great trail run, lots of leaves underfoot so you have to avoid tripping over the odd root- lift your feet! This qualifies as a Top 10 run in my book. Toasty, about 27degs C at 1030, not too humid, about 60%. Slow because of the uphill and tricky trail. Great resort where you can chill out after, or just "dunk" yourself in the ocean.

TOWNSVILLE, AUSTRALIA
A busy week- left Capetown on Thursday 3rd Dec., for Cairns, Australia. Qantas, what a GREAT airline!!
Arrived Cairns on Friday 4th at 2200, joined my ship, and although a bit jetlagged, went for a short 6km easy run out-and-back on Highway 1, out of town. Nice and toasty (Queensland in summer). The next day did a nice 8km out and back the other direction past the Esplanade. Halfway out my jetlag kicked in with a bang. Monday in Port Douglas did no running, but today (Tuesday) in Townsville had a great 8km loop past the Strand and back through town back to the port. Real toasty and humid. After Capetown a little different to run in tropical heat. Lots of Gatorade (and XXXX Gold)

Recent Run- Nome, Alaska
On our recent trip to the Arctic and Bering Sea, stopped in Nome, Alaska- 26 Aug.
Morning run with two running buddies; Juan, the Happy Hippo, and Ryan, the Driver.
Nice gradual uphill along route 140, I think, out of town 6km out, up to about 100m elevation.
Chilly, about 5 degs C.
Our friend Juan put the hammer down on the way back, so we galloped back into town- Great place, great run. 12kms.
