ST. THOMAS, US VIRGIN ISLANDS
After a day at St. John, US Virgin Islands, and a very tough 10km hilly run from Cruz Bay along the Centerline Road, we moved on to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. I had a long, hot and humid run from the dock at Crown Bay past the Airport to Brewers Bay then back to Charlotte Amalie. Very touristy with a lot of cruise ship traffic.
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
Three days here in San Juan. Great jogging from the Port at Old San Juan along the North shore to the Condado area 10km out and back. A lot of joggers out early morning before it gets too toasty and humid. Left on Christmas Eve for US Virgin Islands.
MAYAGUEZ, PUERTO RICO
After two days in La Romana, Dominican Republic where there is a great run in the Casa de Campo Resort, we moved on to Puerto Rico for two days in Mayaguez. Great jogging from the port along the Parc Littoral 10km out and back. Nice promenade and waterfront area-warm and humid.

PUERTO PLATA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Two days here in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Two 10km out and back runs from the the port along the Avenida General Gregorio Luperon, which runs along the beach front for about 4km from the Fort, and has a designated jogging/cycle track second to none. Very beautiful run once you get out of the port area.
GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN
Two days here in George Town, Grand Cayman. A nice run 16km out and back north along West Bay Rd. Not so hot, but very humid and draining. Quiet as only one other Cruise ship (Disney) there at the time.
COZUMEL, MEXICO
Two days here in Cozumel. Very touristy, as a lot of cruise ships pass by here. Two great runs north along Ave. Rafael Melgar along the waterfront in the direction of the airport-10km out and back. Nice and warm and humid.

VERACRUZ, MEXICO
Three days here in Veracruz, Mexico. Nice town, nice promenade from the port along the beach. In the tropics here, so humid and a little toasty, about 26 degs C, with about 70% humidity. Two nice runs along the promenade, 15km and 10km out and back.

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA,USA
Great three days here-weather a little wet and chilly, but no problem, two great runs around the city. 12km out and back from the cruise ship terminal at Riverwalk along St.Charles Ave. Great to run along the tram tracks in the middle of the road, keeping an eye out for trams! Then 10km out and back along Canal St. early morning. Rush hour, so a lot of traffic, but same deal with the tram tracks. Really wonderful city. Sad to leave the US, now on to Mexico.

TAMPA, FLORIDA
Three days here in Tampa. Three great runs 10km out and back from the cruise ship pier at Channelside along Bayshore Boulevard. Great promenade along the water which seems to go forever. Nice weather, great city. Nice and quiet downtown on Thanksgiving.

KEY WEST, FLORIDA
Two days here in laid back Key West. A great early morning run around the island clockwise from the cruise ship pier. Beautiful weather, great scenery, almost 16km around the route I took. Later the same day, another 10km past the Southernmost Point of the Continental USA to the beaches and back. Great place.

MIAMI, FLORIDA
After a few days in West Palm Beach, Florida, we spent three days here in Miami, Florida. Three great 10km out and back from the Port of Miami along the Venetian Causeway towards Miami Beach. Great weather, nice and warm-great place for jogging, nice quiet road once you get to the Venetian Causeway. Next stop, Key West, Florida.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS
Leaving New York after only one day there, we sailed south to avoid another storm arriving. Three days at sea to Nassau, Bahamas and a three day stay there. Two nice 10km runs out from the port in the direction of Cable Beach-nice warm weather, lots of traffic. One 6km out to Atlantis on Paradise Island. Four cruise ships there with us each day, so quite busy in town and on the road.

NEW YORK
After taking a trip from Bermuda to Halifax to avoid Hurricane Sandy, we went into a holding pattern in Boston until things returned to normal in New York, and then spent one day there. A little chilly, but clear skies and a great 10km down the cycle path from Pier 88 on 46th St. in the direction Battery Park, turnaround at the World Trade Center site. Next stop, Bahamas.

HAMILTON, BERMUDA
Three days here in Hamilton, Bermuda. Nice jogs along the Bermuda Railway Trail, site of the old railway line which ran along the length of the island. Great mostly dirt trail, no traffic except where the trail crosses roads on occasion. Nice weather, about 25degs C. Beautiful island, great people.

Arrived Boston-only one day before we sailed-time for a 10km around town. Out and back from the cruise terminal along Summer St. into town and then along Atlantic Ave-turn around on the North Washington St. bridge. Nice weather, nice run, great city. Next stop, Bermuda.
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
Great vacation here at home in Cape Town. Five races; Cellar2Cellar 20km Trail Run at Blaauwklippen, Sunflower FunRun in Mouille Point, Cape Town Marathon, Classic 21,1km, and the Gun Run 21,1km. Great fun, well organised races. Now back to work-Boston, USA.

DUTCH HARBOR, ALASKA
Two days here in Dutch Harbor. Chilly and wet, about 9 degs C. 5km the first day towards the town of Dutch Harbor then 7km out and back from the Port of Dutch Harbor up Ulakta Drive to the Aleutian World War 2 National Historic Area on Amaknak Island. Testing hill of about 300 metres elevation to an old bunker. Fog and rain but a glimpse of a spectacular view in clear weather.

KODIAK, ALASKA
Two days here in Kodiak, Alaska. Great run 20km out and back from the harbour in Kodiak along Rezanof Drive West past the airport. Beautiful scenery, undulating road, a couple of longish slopes along the way, great cool weather, a little windy on the way back to town. Quite a bit of traffic on this road, but more than enough room for everyone.

Great three day stay here in Anchorage. The Coastal Trail perfect for jogging/cycling-runs from and around the city beyond the airport along the shore. Last day here-nice 12km out and back along the trail.

Three days here in Anchorage, Alaska. Great place for running along the Coastal Trail. Organised a 5km Time Trial/Fun Run out and back along the Trail--10 hardy souls from the World Runners showed up at 0700 to do battle-great time had by all. Wonderful weather-warm!
CORDOVA, ALASKA
Short stay here in Cordova, Alaska. Nice 10km out and back on the road to the airport, along the lake. Great scenery, cool weather about 10 degs C. Fishing the big thing here.

Two days here in Haines, Alaska. Good 20km run out and back from the pier along the Haines Highway. Great scenery, cool weather, a bit of a sprinkle now and then.

Great stay here in Ketchikan, Alaska. Nice 20km south from town along the Tongass Highway-good cycle/jogging path next to the road. Great scenery, great weather, great salmon.

Great stay here in Vancouver. Ran the Summerfast 10km race around Stanley Park with about 400 runners. Well organised, rain held off until the finish, good fun. Team from the ship has grown to 12 runners!

Great running here in Seattle, north from the downtown pier along the cycle/jogging path. 12km out and back, nice weather. Great facilities for joggers, geat city.
HILLSBORO, OREGON
Ran the CatWalk 5km race here in Hillsboro, about 25km from Portland, on 4th July. Great atmosphere with about 1300 runners. Big 4th July parade after the race. Great fun.
PORTLAND, OREGON
Great stay here in Portland, Oregon. Great running here, loads of running/biking paths. Nice 12km from the pier towards downtown and over to the other side of the Willamette River and back over the Steel Bridge. Nice weather from 4th July.

4 days here in San Francisco. Great jogging from Pier 35 to the Golden Gate Bridge-about 8km to the middle of the bridge. Great run along the water, beautiful weather and scenery-loads of joggers, cyclists, walkers, great city.

Two days here in Avalon, Catalina Island. Nice hilly run on the airport road. Great place, very dry this time of year.
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, USA
Great stay here in San Diego. Ran the Philip Rivers 5km Race around the Point Loma area. Great race, well organised with upwards of 3500 runners, including our team of 11 runners from the ship. Great fun-great to jog in the San Diego area, lots of bike/jogging paths.

ENSENADA, MEXICO
After a bumpy ride from Hawaii, gratefully reached Ensenada, Mexico. Great 10km north along the highway to Tijuana along the sea. Lots of traffic but nice scenery and weather-not too hot for Mexico.
HAWAII
Great time here in Hawaii-stopped in Kona, site of the Ironman Triathlon, and ran a short part of the course, then swam a short part of the course from the small beach there. Next stop was Lahaina, Maui (photo) where I had a nice 10km along the road south. Great weather, great scenery.

Wonderful stay in Honolulu. Ran the Hibiscus Half Marathon in the Diamond Head area, starting and finishing in Kapiolani Park, along with five others from the ship who ran the 5 Miler. Great route, well organised race-great way to do a long run. Wonderful town, great people, great scenery.

Great island here in the Marquises Islands, French Polynesia. Zodiacs to the small jetty at the village of Hatiheu. A nice hilly 5km around the bay along the coast. Beautiful scenery-volcanic island. Very hot and humid-jungle run-concrete road on the gradients then dirt/mud.

MOOREA, FRENCH POLYNESIA
Another great island here in paradise. Great run from the pier in Cook Bay along the coast. Out and back 10km. 28degs C and about 80% humidity-makes for a draining run. Great scenery along the way. quite a bit of traffic, though.

AITUTAKI, COOK ISLANDS
Small island with a great paved/unpaved road that takes one pretty much around the whole thing. From the little port on the eastern side, I headed south through sparsely populated country side-very nice scenery. The road turned north up the windward side of the island-I then cut back across to the port making a 13km loop. I would estimate the entire circumference of the island at about 22km. Hot and extremely humid.
LAUTOKA, FIJI AND VAVA'U, TONGA
Arrived Lautoka, Fiji after marathon flights from Cape Town. Went for a nice toasty run 8km north from the port through the little town of Lautoka and out into a rural area of cane fields. Very humid, great place, great people. Then on to Vava'u, Tonga (photo) and a wonderful run from the town there around the bay-a nice undulating 8km. A very cool place. The heat broken on the way back by sudden downpour of typically tropical dimensions.
CAPE TOWN
Another race here in Cape Town-the Simonsvlei Trail Run 15km. Small but enthusiastic field tackled a nice undulating course. Great fun. Next stop, Fiji. Back to work.

MELBOURNE AND HOBART, AUSTRALIA
Great time in Melbourne. Parked for 3 days in Station Pier. 3 great runs along the beachfront in direction St. Kilda. Lots of joggers and cyclists here, always a great time in Melbourne. Then on to Hobart and 2 great runs up the river along a very good cycle/jogging track. Great facilities here as everywhere in Australia for joggers. Left from Hobart for vacation in Cape Town.

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA
Great 3 days here in Adelaide. Great town, wonderful people-the Aussies are friendly folk. Great jogging/cycling track along the beachfront from Port Adelaide and North Haven. Two days of 12kms and one 5km. Nice weather, not too hot. The facilities for cyclists/joggers must be among the best in the world here in Australia.
